Students Run LA is an organization in which students run races that will prepare them for the LA marathon. In October of 2014 I joined with my friend, and I was excited on the first day because I would be informed about what it takes to train for the marathon. When I received the first shirt with a medal, I felt proud for what I had done.As months passed I felt the nervous butterflies becoming worse each day. I feared that I would not be capable of training any more. When our coaches gave us our first pair of shoes because we had worked with dedication to receive them, the shoes inspired me and reminded me about all my hard work. I felt that if I put in more dedication, I would be able to do anything in SRLA. Then, as the second pair of shoes was given to us along with the marathon uniform, this was a sign of training coming to an end. My excitement about the race grew.

As the marathon day approached, I encouraged myself to put in more effort and dedication during the last few practices. On the marathon day, I knew this was it. This was what I trained for. I began my race, and I felt strong. As the miles passed, and my body grew more and more tired, the day seemed hotter and hotter.

Last year, I did not finish the marathon, and I was so disappointed in myself. I knew I couldn’t give up because of all the work I’d already put in. At the beginning of this year, I joined SRLA once again to train and prepare for the LA marathon. I’ve trained harder and longer this year, knowing how challenging the race will be. As I keep practicing and pushing myself, I’ve reminded myself that I established this goal to accomplish it. In two weeks, on February 14th, I know I’ll give it all it takes until I cross the finish line.
